Vehicles in Germany's Town Found Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Police
Authorities reported they were notified by a individual who noticed a automobile in Hanau smeared with red-colored substance

Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what seems to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were vandalized, occasionally with swastikas, they reported in a statement.

Law enforcement report they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.

The fluid had been applied in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Police then discovered multiple other smeared cars and residential walls in the nearby vicinity.

Swastikas are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Police state initial examinations indicate the fluid was probably blood from a person.

"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are presently not informed of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.

Municipal representatives stated they were attempting "to resolve the incident" and have requested to the residents for details.

A senior official said the vandalism made him stunned and required to be resolved quickly.

"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he posted on online, recalling the killing of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in February 2020.
