Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at each of the past five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and championship contender the Australian for the top spot in the closing stages of the practice session at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by one point after winning in Mexico City two weeks ago, outpaced the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Oscar Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before the sprint shootout scheduled for the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the other racer in the points battle, trailing 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th place as his team opted for a different programme.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, though minor, when he spun at corner four soon after starting.
Tsunoda lost control over the track edges before sliding over the escape zone, and was fortunate to escape with just a minor contact of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the conclusion of the session, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn before the final bend on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran finished practice in 19th place, trailing team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the rest of the field, with Nico Hulkenberg's Sauber third fastest, 0.619 seconds slower than Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth fastest, with the Sauber of Gabriel Bortoleto ahead of Mercedes' George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
